FC Takwaba continues its unbeaten record, by coming home with a 1:1 draw against So-Cal Real FC. Center midfielder Kolt Callaway scored a banger in the last minute that tied up the game. Callaway, who just returned from his two year South Korea trip, rewarded the team for its efforts to score a goal. Today, Takwaba’s performance was lacking cleverness, vision and pragmatical attacks. In the first half, Real FC’s focus was on defending with all of its players, which resulted in a high ball possession for FC Takwaba. Nevertheless, the first half ended 0:0. In the second half, the home team started being more energetic. It was Callaway though getting the first chance after a cross from the left side. The first goal appeared in the 65th minute when a So Cal striker finished one of his several opportunities. Now, Takwaba had to risk more which gave the hosted team a lot of space for counter attacks. In the 80th minute, So Cal hit the post. But, Takwaba did not give up and five minutes before the end, Sven Simon dribbled with the ball inside the box and got fouled by one of the defenders for a PK. Bulut grabbed the ball and missed the big opportunity. The game got very hectic and, in the last minute, Kolt Callaway saved his team one point by scoring a goal that could be under the category “Goal of the year.”

The two sides met on Sunday night, with seventh-ranked Pateadores SC hosting unbeaten FC Takwaba with a record of 4-0-0.

FC Takwaba battled on Sunday afternoon but was able to stay on top of the game and win 3:2. The team’s starting line-up included some changes compared to its last game. Once again, goalie Joseph Geletko replaced Jimmy Crawford in a great manner. Also, the team’s defensive boss, Gareth Tomlinson, was not able to play due to “tons of homework”, which forced Sven Simon to experiment a little bit.

The game started with more possession on FC Takwaba’s side with its typical short passing style. After a few 100% chances, Dana Yoshizu finally put the ball in the back of the net. High pressure forced a Pateadores defender to lose the ball. Sven Simon picked up the ball and passed it to Yoshizu who then scored. The second goal was right before the half-time whistle. This time, Davis Paul played a long ball to Simon who sprinted straight towards goal and toe-poked it in the far right corner to make the game 2:0. After Pateadores first goal (2:1), Takwaba struggled taking control over the game. However, in the 70th min Davis Paul’s terrific shot from 25 yards ended up in the upper vie. Takwaba, now got control over the game again and moved the ball well, which resulted in several chances. However, in the last minute of the game, the hosting team scored another goal to make the final result 3:2.

FC Takwaba now got 15 points out of 5 games, dedicated to stay unbeaten.

FC Takwaba continued its winning streak on Sunday against Genesis FC. FC Takwaba started creating trouble for the opponent from the immediate start of the match and should have put away three goals within the first 15 minutes. Genesis FC struggled to keep FC Takwaba out of their own half and even box for most of the first half. However, it took a while until Brett Taylor was able to fire a shot passed the opponent’s goalkeeper after a deceiving through-ball by Sven Simon. After the goal, FC Takwaba kept pressing for another goal but couldn’t put the ball away.

The match was very aggressive and poor refereeing increased this aggressiveness, which eventually lead to a brutal foul on Sven Simon and a red card for Andy Oshay. Once both Simon and Oshay were off the field, the team had no more players for substitutions and slowly ran out of gas but attempted to intelligently “manage the game”. Managing the game didn’t seem as easy and the team constantly got put under pressure due to individual mistakes towards the end of the match. However, overall, the better team won and the score made the match appear a lot closer than it was. “A win is a win”, commented assistant manager Tomlinson after the match.

FC Takwaba survived a late fight back from So-Cal Real FC to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. In a lackluster affair, FCT appeared to be in control for much of the game especially after an early goal from Jason Thompson – the lively center midfielder contributed to some neat work in and around the box before finishing past a helpless keeper. Thompson then turned creator as he slipped an intelligent ball through to Brett Taylor. Taylor took a couple of touches before unleashing a venomous strike with his left foot leaving the keeper no chance. FCT appeared to have put the game to bed midway through the second half as once again Taylor found the back of the net after rounding the keeper and slotting the ball home unchallenged. Complacency then crept into an already below average performance that allowed So-Cal Real FC to pull back two goals in the final 15 minutes. Thankfully, FCT held onto for a 3-2 victory that in reality could have been a lot more with a little more quality and luck in front of goal.

FC Takwaba started the season with a big win against top ranked Doxa Italia. It was a rain sodded day that forced back and forth conversation as to whether or not the match would go ahead. It could have been said that heart ruled logic on what turned out to be a cold yet heated Sunday afternoon.

FC Takwaba took the lead through a Dana Yoshizu goal. Doxa leveled affairs in the closing stages of the first half to make it 1:1 at the break. Then, Doxa took the lead (2:1) before Brett Taylor tied it up (2:2). Andy Oshay hammered in a wickedly deflected free-kick to give FCT their second lead of the game with 10 minutes remaining (3:2). Brett Taylor added another to rap up the three points for the home team (4:2).

Great start! Welcome to the the Coast Soccer League…

Many of us APU soccer alumni have been very close for many years and we all love hanging out and playing soccer with each other. But it’s been difficult to find leagues and teams where we can all play together. So we finally decided to just do it ourselves and start our own team and join Coast Soccer’s Premier Division. After many conversations with the league, soccer alumni, and friends, we were fortunate enough to raise enough financial support to join the league.
