FC Takwaba is a men’s soccer team committed to living out the core Christian values and ethics through the use of athletic competition. The team was founded in 2011 by Sven Simon and Gareth Tomlinson – mainly to keep together alumni soccer players of Azusa Pacific University and to bring amateur adult soccer to the Azusa area. Takwaba means “There is no one” (like Jesus) in Bemba (the mother tongue in Zambia) and is derived from a Christian song that the APU mens’ soccer team has been singing before every game ever since a few team members came back from a mission trip to Zambia.
Our vision is to become an established soccer team that leads by example through character and Christian ethics both on and off the field. We strive to provide the primary base for APU players both past and present to continue competing and developing beyond college season as well as for APU alumni, family, friends and others in the local community to gather during games and events, help foster and enhance the APU alumni network, and simply have a good time being part of the beautiful game.
